The History of the Sarah Hughes Brewery (Established 1921)

Opened originally in the 1860's behind the Beacon Hotel, Sarah Hughes bought the brewery in 1921 and started to brew the beer now called Dark Ruby Mild.

After lying idle for 30 years the brewery was reopened in 1987 by John Hughes, who continued the tradition and recipe of his grandmothers to the present day.

Important information

We regret that due to the nature of the premises, the tour is not suitable for those with impaired mobility.

Visitors are also advised to wear flat shoes to comply with safety regulations. Children over 12 welcome.
